Kandern, Conclusion

Well, today is my last day in Kandern.  I served one more breakfast and then handed off to the other team, ending my final shift at the B&B.  It is kind of a relief to be done actually.  I've enjoyed myself and had a good time being a B&B host, but I think I'm ready to go home.

After the handoff, I walked to a nearby cafe, ate a berry pastry, and wrote a couple thank-you cards.  The French windows in the front were open, letting polygons of sunlight fall on the floor.  Traffic rumbled by outside, and people strolled along the sidewalks.  A bee flew in and buzzed around my plate which now held only crumbs.  It seemed oddly special to be sitting in a cafe in a small town in Germany on a warm and lazy Sunday afternoon.  But then again, everything seems special when you arrive in a new place or are about to leave a place.

I can't quantify this summer in a list of Ten Things I Have Learned from Living in Germany, but I know the experience of this summer will continue to reside with me and change me as I move forward.
